Q: What is the purpose of gutters?

A: Gutters and downspouts stop water that falls on the roof from pouring down the side of your home and collecting near the foundation. They prevent water from dripping on people in walkways, entrances and driveways.

Q: How do gutters get clogged?

A: Debris lands on the roof and accumulates in the gutters, eventually obstructing the drainage of water. Leaves are a major source of blockage as well as pine needles, seeds and small branches.

Q: What happens when my gutters get clogged?

A: If the drain capacity of the gutters is compromised, water will spill over and drip down the sides of the house eventually this may damage siding, windows, doors and even perhaps the foundation. It can also compromise the seals that keep your household water tight.

Q: How often should gutters be cleaned?

A: This depends entirely on the environment of the area. Generally it’s a good idea to have your gutters checked at least once a year. In houses surrounded by trees, it may be necessary to clean out the gutters twice per year: in the autumn, after the leaves fall; and in the spring, to clear out dead twigs and seeds that accumulate at the beginning of the growing season. Our cleaning service and scheduled maintained service is available to you.
